EXPLORATORY CYCLING & WALKING TRIP IN SICILY

Includes airfare

This trip is an exploration trip for our 2007 program. It is on sale for 50% off the regular price, and includes airfare and meals.

Departs March 15 - 29, 2005 - 14 days, includes bike rental, support, guided cycling & hiking.

We will be flying into Palermo and out of Catania. The initial two days will be spent in Palermo, one of the most majestic and beautiful cities you have ever seen, the Grand Theatre, the Opera House, the food and the markets, are really breathtaking. Then, we will start the biking part of our trip.  For the next four days we'll follow the West Coast in a southernly direction with full van support on touring bikes.  If the weather is favorable, we'll stop to lie on the beach - the waters are aqua and turquoise blue, with white sandy beaches in this area of Italy.
Once we have circled the southwestern loop of Sicily, we'll transfer by shuttle to the city of Agrigento.  We take an afternoon to explore one of the most complete Greek Temples dating from the year 581 and overlooking the Mediterranean Ocean. Continuing on our way to the magnificent and unknown city of  Ragusa, we have two days of hiking inland and exploring the fields and ancient Necropolis of old times.  Heading to the East Coast now,  we'll take one day to travel to Siracusa and visit this famous and ancient city, and if time permits we'll have a cooking class. From there, we will arrive at the foothills of "The Etna" an active Volcano that will provide us with hiking opportunities at it's lower altitudes.  We'll stay in the village of FrancaVilla, a picturesque little town full of hikers. From there, we'll move along to hike in Taormina,  a romantic gem of Sicilian history, quaint, with a fantastic amphitheater, and a wonderfuly hospitable attitude towards visiting Americans. Finally our arrival into Catania marks the near end of our trip, we'll spend our final day in the streets of Catania before boarding our plane back home.

Includes: air, most dinners and all breakfasts, bike rentals, van support, cycle guide, hiking guide, some city tours, entrance fees to the Temples, and three star accommodation.

Price: 1400 Euro not including airfare (13 days)
